EGP Participates in CSO Budget Forum Review of the 2026 National Budget
EGP recently joined fellow members of the Civil Society Budget Forum in a collaborative review of the 2026 National Budget, presented to Parliament by the Minister for Finance on behalf of the President on November 13, 2025. The engagement brought together diverse civic actors to examine government priorities, analyse key allocations, and reflect on how the budget responds to the needs of citizens and the communities we represent.

For EGP, the session offered a meaningful opportunity to see our advocacy efforts reflected in national policymaking. Several of our policy inputs were incorporated into the final budget—a positive signal that civil society contributions continue to shape Ghana’s fiscal direction. We were particularly encouraged by the inclusion of the proposed VAT reform measures aimed at simplifying tax administration, improving compliance, and enhancing domestic revenue mobilisation. These reforms, if effectively implemented, could ease the burden on small businesses and strengthen the overall tax system.
We also welcomed the prioritisation of critical sectors such as education, health, and agriculture. Investment in these areas remains essential for improving livelihoods, safeguarding vulnerable groups, and advancing inclusive economic growth.
Despite these gains, there are still areas that require further attention. Some of our recommendations—especially those centred on deepening transparency, strengthening accountability structures, and ensuring equitable resource distribution—remain outstanding. EGP will continue to engage relevant authorities and push for reforms that uphold fairness, openness, and responsible governance.
Our participation in the Budget Forum reaffirms our commitment to promoting citizen-centred governance and constructive policy engagement. Working alongside partners such as Oxfam in Ghana, BudgIT Ghana, the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, and other CSOs, we remain dedicated to advocating for a national budget that truly reflects the aspirations of all Ghanaians.
We will continue to keep our members and the public informed as we monitor the implementation of the 2026 Budget in the months ahead.
